Their research is a 360° torsion on quantum physics, parascience, queer theory and performative self-organizing. Particularly through movements and time-specific gatherings, their work links the energetic fluxes produced in the togetherness. Bridging matter to matter, traveling the space time in vortexes and loops, Di Fabio’s work aims to disrupt temporal linearity and connect its extremes through cross-references. This poetics of relations underlay a complex understanding of the artistic object, as never pre-existing and concluded, but in becoming, given by atoms attracted in molecules, discourses shaped by bodies in alliance.

«To make the music we are making by moving the people moving around». Glacial stones, transported by the melting of perennial glaciers, and therefore erratic, carry the memory of a landscape in disappearance, while humans create points of contact between languages and scenarios through the very orbits of their bodies, hybridizing their stories. Woven into other contributions, nourished by various worlds, born of unforeseen encounters; diversity is what existence has in common: humanity is modelled by what comes from afar, crosses her paths, and carries her forward.

«Echoes and echoing greatly lend to practices adept at appropriating and mimicking, to give support to appearances that never quite “fit in”». The show brings together the results of a research on personal/social fears, how soft bodies perceive each other if one of them is armoured into a car, and what we can learn from the observation of two black holes merging. Since summer 2020, this study has carried out workshops, readings and travel between different communities and art places in Turin, Berlin and its countryside. Ingrained in the title chosen by Di Fabio is their research on the loss of sources of meaning and materiality: bark could be the sound produced by the dog or the outermost layers of stems of woody plants, material formerly used for the construction of megaphones. Indeed, the exhibition invites the visitors to enter a wish-landscape and perceive how their position sounds, feels and blends together when lines and membranes are blurred. In the spirit of bridging vibrant matters, the artworks on display at Almanac are shards of the participatory project, or its objectual translation, which constitutes the a priori process of the exhibition.

<img loading="lazy" class="wp-image-2608" title="BARK, 2021. (Édouard Glissant, Caribbean Discourse: Selected Essays)

Life is recalled in Di Fabio’s work through the voice, a tentacular, malleable and cultural determining medium, fundamental in Di Fabio’s practice; this «vocal vibration» is a heritage belonging to the history of the resistance of repressed bodies, which usually adopted radio or broadcasting as a tool of community building. Di Fabio’s listening and recomposing languages and stories link the historic courses to the bodies who carry them, whilst orchestrating a sonic landscape of reconnections. On the occasion of the opening of BARK, when in collaboration with queer performers, activists and lovers organized a dialogue between voices and sounds. The urban choir, where harmony was formed by the unicity of participants, comes from Quando l’auto si increspa e finge la sua corazza: come risolvere conflitti osservando due buchi neri fondersi [When the car ripples and fakes its armour: how to solve conflicts by watching two black holes merge], a workshop which led to the production of texts and materials remediated through collective editings in the form of an instant messaging chat, vocal or text messages. The many passages, mouths to word, hands by hands to each participant built a thinking through the experience of the other, where no authorship matters if not the collectivity. Joyfully riding through the streets of Turin, the choir of non-hierarchical voices animated with new poetic desires and revelations, reached the placid course of the Po river and Dora canal, trying to influence the memory of the water. The timber of the voices and the flow of the fluid as plastic walls, crashes on the hard bodies of the city unleashing the claim for softness.

«As everyone with lungs breathes the space between the hands and the space around the hands and the space of the room and the space of the building that surrounds the room and the space of the neighborhoods nearby in and out».
